War spells are a different equation, but most of this is still accurate, and it'll give you the equation when you use the spell.
nDefense = highest char Level / Character count
1st char is level / 1
2nd char is level / 2
3rd char is level / 3
Ring of protection, cloak of deflection, and shards are added to this...
Base Success = 45 + (Caster Level * 3) - nDefense (as calced above) + nTalisman (power or fury)

nNewRate for scrolls is
NewRate = 45 + Home Caster Level
NewRate = 85 + int((HomeCasterLevel-40) / 2)
if (bArtifact == 1) nSuccess = 100 - nDefense
At this point, some artifacts get a BOOST if the artififact is lined up with the class of the user...
A minimum success rate is calced in
Caster = 45
Artifact = 35
Scroll = 30
Then sphere and defense posture are subtracted, sphere is 15% posture is 2% per caster on defense...
If the spell is *not* open gate, a cap of 95% success rate is applied...
